Neilson Park looked stunning with all the leaves dropped to the ground under the majestic trees last week and that is where the Waratah Guides met for their meeting on World Environment Day.
Their 2 hour meeting was filled with 3 main activities – planning their Patrol focused meeting in the last week of term; Exploring digital photography – with many stunning images of the park on a Winter’s day and exhilarating Ice Blocking down the slopes of Neilson Park… the perfect location!
Plans for upcoming Patrol Focused Meeting
A Guide Patrol is a group of approximately 5 – 6 Guides who work together as a team. There upcoming challenge is to plan and organise their whole activity for their Patrol for a 2 hour meeting at the end of term. Exciting and varied plans are in place.
The Pelican Patrol is planning to perform a play that their Patrol Leader, Gabi Webster, has written and practicing songs and lines is already underway. They are hoping to also squeeze in a manicure – pedicure session.
The Possum Patrol members are keen to cook and their focus is going to be on delectable chocolates and cakes. (We hope they will share their delicious treats when they are finished – One of the many benefits of being a Guide Leader!)
The Bluebell Patrol wants to make sure they all know how to correctly fold the Flag for flag ceremonies and those who are experienced are going to train t
he rest of the Patrol. Girl Guides Australia have a Pen friend system so the Bluebells plan to help their Patrol members apply for a Guide Pen friend from somewhere around the world by bringing in a computer with internet connection to apply online. They are also keen to achieve badges so are going to assist each other to decide on and work towards a badge. With holidays coming up it is the perfect way to not get bored with a personal challenge to achieve!
Exhilarating Ice blocking
The Waratah Guides loved ice blocking so much that they continued into the twilight as at 5pm it was already starting to get dim. That didn’t stop our active Waratah Guides pushing a large block of ice back up the slopes of Neilson Park to slide giggling back down again. Bilby (Elizabeth Betts) froze 2 large ice blocks in polystyrene boxes, the ice blocks were so big that 2 Guides could sit on one block together to ride down the hill. Which of course made it even more fun!
Photographing their Environment As it was World Environment Day the Waratah Guides focused on the beauty around them and took many stunning photos. We hope to work selections of these photographs to create fabulous screen prints in the near future.
